I Hate Mike McCarthy and Dom Capers and You Should Too

The Packers have been eliminated from the playoffs. That doesn’t feel weird to type because they are always getting eliminated, but this time they’re not even going to get a chance to show up.

They rightly brought back Aaron Rodgers for their previous game against the Carolina Panthers, Diddy’s new team, and while he made the Packers fun again, they ultimately came up short. Back to the IR for A-Rodge.

If you look at Mike McCarthy’s record, he’s 121–68–1 in the regular season, good for a 63% wining percentage, and he’s 10–8 in the playoffs, good for 56% winning percentage. There are a lot of teams that would kill for a coach with that kind of record. A coach with a Super Bowl win under their belt. But I’m here to tell you: Fuck that guy.

His success is 100% accredited to Aaron Rodgers and that’s it. If Rodgers goes down, you can expect McCarthy to fucking blow it. He can’t adapt to anything. Rodgers should have 3 Super Bowls by now and I’ll argue that until I’m blue in the face. In 2011, you don’t have the best record in football with an MVP quarterback, and lose to the fucking Giants. In 2015 you don’t intercept Russell Wilson 4 times, have a 19–7 lead with 4 minutes left, and lose to the fucking Seahawks in overtime. And buddy, that’s all on McCarthy aka Lil’ Andy Reid.

And Dom Capers. Oh, boy. “Fire Capers” is as common to find in a Packers forum as “Aaron Rodgers is awesome.” Nothing tears Packers’ fans souls out like Dom Capers and his shitty defense does. If the Packers don’t score 30 points a game, you can pretty much call it a wrap. If the opposing team is facing a 3rd and 45, you can expect them to convert it. You know where Green Bay’s 3rd down defense ranks this year? 30th. Woweeee!

Maybe it was a down year, let me check. Last year they were 26th! The year before that? 8th. The year before THAT? 18th. And before that year they were 18th as well. So since 2013, the Packers have been top 15 in the league at stopping opponents on 3rd down just once. That means that a good defensive year is an outlier and not the norm and THEY STILL EMPLOY THAT MOTHERFUCKER. Also, never forget when Colin Kaepernick hung 444 yards and 4 touchdowns on the Packers in a playoff game AT LAMBEAU.

I understand in 2010, Capers and McCarthy were on fire. I know this, and I’m thankful for that Super Bowl. But when the team gets worse and worse, and you’re squandering one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever think about playing football, you have to look elsewhere. The current coaching staff isn’t getting it done, and Rodgers is on a collision course to retire at 40 with one ring and a lot of blown opportunities.
