Lunchbreak Take: Thoughts on the iPhone 7

Camera Rumor
Lots of Rumors that on the smaller iPhone 7 we will see a larger camera bump. I hate camera bumps, but I love better cameras so I guess they are hear to stay because physics! (People like thin phones, but camera like depth) Also, once you put the phone in the case you really don’t feel it anyway. The dual-camera idea is interesting. I wonder if they will use it post-shot focusing like the older HTC M8 did or oversampling a shot. Either way I don’t think I like the bigger iPhone having that much of a better camera than the basic model. That is one of best things about the iPhone is universally they have similar hardware except screen size
Smart Connector
This could be cool in lead of Motorola’s snap case idea. I could see accessory makers making battery cases, speaker cases, projector cases, keyboard cases, etc. This could open up the iPhone to an interesting 3rd party accessory market if they really axe the headphone port.
Headphone Port
I’m about 50/50 on this one. I can see them doing it, but also keeping it and delaying the removal until next year. With rumors as strong as they are I think they are going to remove it this year. I just hope they have some kind of battery solution than Bluetooth 4.0. Maybe Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC tap to pair. Wireless headphones like WI-FI is technically a downgrade, but hopefully Apple can make their solution more convenient to the point that people will be willing to deal with separate issues like another device to recharge and pairing/connectivity issues.
Sapphire Glass and AMOLED
Would be nice, but I don’t see the prices or yield being to the point that they could put it on the iPhone. AMOLED I could see on the 10 Year anniversary iPhone.
Style
This could be a risky move. I wonder if smartphones are like cars that people don’t care if they change radically anymore physically. The last few Samsung phones have looked largely the same. I wonder if introducing new colors like Space Black would be enough to keep people interesting. I would personally love a Product Red iPhone 7. Please make it happen Tim.
