Can you really focus for 25 minutes?

Clock never stops ticking, it goes on, like sand slipping from the hand but the difference is that you can again grasp the sand in your hand that is not possible with time, if it has passed, nothing on earth can reverse it. You miss a moment and it is forever gone. That’s why the saying “Time is money” would not be amiss. Time is categorized in years, months, weeks, days, minutes and seconds. Second which is a minor unit of time but when it merges with other seconds constitutes minutes, days, weeks and so on. If one is ignorant of the importance of this small unit then one’s months and years also go fruitless.

People in the world are rich and poor, strong and emaciated, healthy and sick, having disproportionate resources, wealth and health but there exists one thing that is equally disseminated for everyone and that is Minutes in a Day. Every person, no matter how rich or destitute he is, has same time in every day. Some spend it in improving and furnishing their lives, some in striving for a better tomorrow and some, most unfortunate ones, put it in vain for temporarily leisure and gratification.

“If you want to be productive, you need to become master of your minutes” Crystal Paine

Here is a technique to do assign work before deadline that is called Pomodoro Technique. The technique use to avoid distractions and just focus on work for minimum time its just 25 minutes.

Basically, the Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980’s. The technique uses a timer to break down work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks. It’s a method to fight your procrastination in order to become more productive and self efficient up to maximum limits, and to know the secret of getting things done timely and perfectly.

Procrastination:

It’’s literally a story of the whole student community. We wait for deadline and then we submit our assignments and research. Not just that we get deviate to the less important things and get our time wasted. At the end its only panic attack that is left.

“Perfectionism prevents action. Waiting until you have devised the perfect solution to something is merely a form of procrastination.”
Staffan Noteberg,

First of all make a list of tasks that you want to complete. Break down prolonged tasks in small multiple objectives. Now find a calm corner where disturbance is least and organize your work area there by making it tidy and neat. Get rid of all things that can distract you whether it is your cell phone, social websites or applications and even turn off your email notifications that pop up on your laptop screen. If you are doing offline work then put your laptop out of your range. And now sit and stretch your arms behind your neck and take a deep breath

Activity

I had never use this technique before but today at night I use this approach to write my blog on medium. I switch off my internet connection and keep my mobile on silent mode and pace it away from me and use a timer of 25 minutes and start writing. After 25 minutes, I take a break of 5 minutes and then start writing again for 25 minutes. After 25 minutes, I take a break again of 5 minutes and then start writing again for 25 minutes. Definitely my mind goes on different side but I make strong determination to complete this task with in time . So I didn’t distracted . I completed my task with in a given time through this and after that I take 5 min break and do my dinner.

Takeaway

This technique proved to be very helpful for me as I completed my work timely without wasting my time on any other activities. It was a fruitful experience and I’m thinking to keep practicing it. I learned to make myself efficient and I didn’t got bored or lazy in the whole process. I hope to become more productive by continuing the practice of Pomodoro Technique.
