Say Procrastination Goodbye. Here’s How!

Reading is my favourite _____ (add whatever noun that can be fit in to the blank). And yet due to no particular habit of reading, I often find myself buying a lot of books and piling them up without even open the polythene wrapping.

I came across a trick that could be really handy for overcoming this barrier of reading. And I have already practised the thing and it worked well, to say the least. I managed to re-read a part of a book that interests me a lot.

There is this ‘Pomodoro’ technioque of doing things that you won’t be able to establish, otherwise. The technique is based upon the principle of human physiology and psychology that brain cannot concentrate on one particular subject for too long (wrong in the case of me watching Misbah-ul-Haq in cricket) and that humans brain has become accustomed to the reward for its effort. So, here the formula — counter both of them with deal, not with fight.

Pomodoro technique counters the first problem by establishing tasks in spells, a spell can be as long as one can manage but mostly as short as 20–25 minutes. After doing just one boring and still, useful thing for the whole time of spell, there is a break. This break is specifically for the reward; second problem is managed here.

This technique is especially useful for poor starter because then the brain can be tricked to start something that otherwise would not be initiated. But, once one gets used to doing something regularly, Pomodoro or not one can easily manage keeping up with the task.
