Going the #extramile by dropping your cover letter and resume to companies and try to get an interview call

Today I went for the in-person drop of my Resume and Cover letter for the internship program offered in my department.
It,s a one year long paid internship where you had to give your 5-6 hours daily on the research work and other technology related things that are already started by the M.phil students of the university.
It,s a totally an unofficial meeting as I do not take the appointment from the lab,s supervisor neither is there any need to drop these document personally because all the working is through email.
Unfortunately the supervisor was in a meeting so, I had to wait for about an hour which is not a waste of time. I talk to the student who are already working there, ask about their routine, culture of the lab, supervisor,s behavior and relation with the interns and last but most important how was their experience of working in this lab.
This will help me a lot because when I actually meet the supervisor he asks: why are you here?
Don’t you know we operate through mailing system?
I said yes sir I know that. I am here to drop my documents in person to you as I am really passionate about the internship as well as I have already applied and mail my documents to you.
After hearing that he said:
I am really impressed that you are taking this opportunity so seriously. I’ll tell you if I can do something for you.
Conclusion:
Sometimes people didn’t expecting this kind of behavior. This I think is the best chance to make your mark and a good first impression!
