I was not planning to go there but we can. I would say no you are not being moral though you may be practicing moral tendencies or actions. How many times has someone done something “right” with the wrong attitude? That is not the goal of Christian moral behavior. If I operate just to avoid punishment I am actually being selfish. However, Jesus stated that the greatest commandment was “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. The second is like it Love your neighbor as yourself.” So to act truly moral is to act out of love for God and to consider others before yourself not to avoid punishment.

If a corporate entity gives away a bunch of money just to get publicity are they truly being charitable. I think we would say their actions are charitable, but their motivation betrays them.

Morality has to come from outside of us. As humans are fickle beings that change there, the mind often. One day the relative moral needle will tick in that direction, and the masses will widely accept it. Then we will need a standard to point to say that it is indeed wrong. The whole of history shows that societies do this often.

I believe and have experienced that truth comes from God. Because I love him and seek him above all, I am a benefactor of him changing me. Because I am hypocritical, I do wrong things, I sin, and I need someone to help me truly change that.
