I saw this everywhere in the valley and it still astounds me. I’m 25 and have been professionally programming for about three years. Assuming you started the same age I did, you’ve been programming since I was ten. I was still wetting the bed when I was ten! In any other engineering field, working five times as long means you know five times as much shit as I do. But in software, people see “spent several decades honing their craft” as a liability, which is bonkers.
