The above study is suspect:

  • The Java programs were done in a controlled environment, while the Python scripts were done by volunteers found on usenet groups in their own time
  • The Java time-to-develop was tracked by the experimenter, while the Python time was self-reported
  • Java TTD included all time, including design time and (from what I can tell from the study) lunch breaks, while the Python developers counted whatever they want, and the author of the study admits they probably rounded down.
