56. Look, I Am Giving You Authority
Today’s reading: “The Ministry of Healing” pp. 93, 94.
The poor man couldn't even speak. No doubt he felt hopeless, but there are two saving principles here:
… every man is free to choose what power he will have to rule over him.
No cry from a soul in need, though it fail of utterance in words, will be unheeded.
So Jesus heard his heart cry and acted. The prey of the terrible was delivered.
And he was not just dragged away from Satan, barely alive, he was marvellously transformed, as we will be if we let Christ do it.
Satan is a conquered foe and Christ’s victory is our own. We have been given His power, the Holy Spirit, to defend us.
With repentance and faith we apply for asylum. Christ, in a display of his love and power to the whole universe, stakes His throne on His ability to protect us from “the power of Satan and the infirmity of (our) own nature.”
Satan wants to take our eyes off our Champion and focus on his strength, but Satan has lost every battle where he meets Christ.
I challenge you (and me) to talk of Jesus and His powerful love, not my troubles or my enemy. Why not?
