Indian / Eastgate
I recently stopped into Akbars on a Sunday afternoon. I’ve always thought of Akbars as a place people go to celebrate birthdays. That aside, they know how to make a shit-hot curry so
What I had: Chicken Karahi, Family Size Garlic Naan
I was having an late lunch/early dinner so I opted for no rice and just shared a family size naan bread instead. Its absolutely massive and as close to a perfect naan as you’re going to get. It turned out to be a good choice of meal as one of those plus a curry is more than enough. I had the Chicken Karahi which turned out to be one of the best curries I think I may have ever had. The problem with a lot of curry houses is consistency, I’ve been to some restaurants and had an amazing meal, and returned at a later date to order the same thing only to be given a totally different tasting dish. I don’t think thats ever an issue at Akbars, they seem to consistently put out quality, consistent food.
Its your standard higher-end Indian restaurant fodder. Mirrors. Gold. Sparkly shit. Meh.
This particular visit was late Sunday afternoon, so it started off quiet but by the time we left the place had filled up quite considerably. Weekend nights are hectic, very noisy and lots going on.
