Ghostbusters, remakes, and the destruction of your childhood.

I thought about doing a YouTube video on this. But in honesty I don’t have the equipment yet to put a proper one together so I will do this one with words. At first the remake trend was ‘We have the tech to do it right.’ Because we all asked questions, outside of movies like Robocop who managed to push the tech envelope not only for the time but in an overall sense a lot of movies were restricted by the tech of the era.

And even Robocop got one. So the question is why?

Some it just makes good money sense, popular movies redone properly will print money for you. Oceans 11 and 13 being high on that list. Others want to tell a different story. A conflict on set could have radically changed things. But I want to tell you something here and now.

Childhoods are being rewritten. From Comic Books to Movies. Video Games are holding strong but are under constant assault. DC rebirth is an ongoing process, but what has happened with Marvel has me shaking my head. Yeah. There’s a new ‘Iron Man’ Tell me that doesn’t come out of left field. Worse you’re giving the role to a Teenager who has zero concept of the POWER the Iron Man suit in ANY of its forms granted. You could make her White as Snow and born in a perfectly normal Home from a narrative standpoint it’s irresponsible move. UNLESS unless your goal is to destroy the heroes that helped raise America.

The post war push was not from any one specific thing, it was to modify a term from a certain time traveling Brit: A wibbley-wobbly Patrioty-Wimey mass of stuff. The right stories at the right times ignited the American imagination. It was no one thing, it was everything. And now the forces working against America have taken aim at every one of those things, not allowing parents to show them what made their own imaginations flourish. They try to lure in with ‘faithful retellings’ of old classics. Which brings me to Ghostbusters. The first one without any doubt in a political lense is by far the most libertarian movie Hollywood has ever let out. Four guys with a different view putting together a business to combat an utterly impossible problem. And the Govt of the time tried to stop them. Well in that movie at least the People won, the little guy won. I don’t think you’re going to get that out of this new Ghostbusters.

Leaked Sony Memos state that Bill Murray is effectively under a SLAP order. It’s an actual legal term, these types of lawsuits eat at the first amendment denying people their voice. Otherwise I believe Murray would have set this film on fire already. The comedy is not there, it carries a feminist SJW message and honestly if there’s one guy I wish had backed out of the project it’s Thor: Chris Hemsworth. He plays a specific role in the film that was and is beneath him. But then again maybe it’s not.

The actions Marvel are taking make clear judgements on who endorses what. Robert Downey Jr, knew exactly how the Civil War Movie would end. And he knows far too much about the character to think that this goes well going forward. He’s done with Marvel after Infinity war. At first I thought it was just a matter of somehow topping Iron Man 3. Which in of itself is a HUGE task for the story that was told. But now I know it’s something else. Robert Downey Jr, knows what’s going on. And he wants no part of it. He sees the Narrative he sees what Disney and Marvel are attempting to do. Mark my words ‘Captain America’ will be attacking Constitutionalists and those looking for freedom before Avengers 3. It won’t be Evans with the shield. But the narrative role will be filled.

I’ve had to think long and hard over this past week of my own vacation from real life. A lot of things I don’t plan on getting into but this has been a good diversion. Until you get to the core of the matter. Those who are creating Entertainment are not looking for new projects they are looking on how to destroy the old ones. They can’t do it to all of them, but they’re trying very hard. Ghostbusters could have been the best movie all year. Could have beaten Civil War in raw numbers could have been a story that Championed the peon like the one writing this article. Instead what you will get is a piece of SJW garbage.

Robocop was one of the defining movies of the 80's It showed a future very much like we have today. It also showed the direction technology was moving and what the end results could be. It was a tale of out of control greed, and what happens when the rule of law vanishes. But I think we can agree the new one was kinda bleh?

And unfortunately the hits keep on coming here’s a short list of era defining movies up for Remake and release between now and 2020

  1. Wargames
  2. Commando
  3. The Wild Bunch
  4. Flight of the Navigator
  5. Bill and Ted
  6. The NeverEnding Story
  7. It and Pet Semetary (Both King Films)
  8. Dirty Dancing
  9. Death Wish
  10. Escape from New York

11 Highlander.

Some of these were fun, others inspired entire Era’s. Wargames had a particular connotation given its day. First Gen hacking, the threat of nuclear war and how information could be manipulated even then. Flight of the Navigator was a completely unexpected film for both parents and children. For me it holds a special place in my heart. I expect it sadly to end up ruined by politics and an effort to make NASA more than it currently is. I could go on and on about every movie on this list. But I don’t feel I have to. Humans are inspired by great stories, unfortunately the recent trend is to take the greatest modern stories, infect them with ideas that do not fit the stories at all, and try to make us watch and get our CHILDREN hooked into them. Never seeing the originals that were so great in their own ways. Ignoring the stories told in those movies.

Story matters, it mattered then, it matters now. The stories that people are trying to tell are TOXIC to a child if you are trying to END Racism, war, and distrust. We need new storytellers, we need new stories. For if the stories of old become truly corrupted..what can we show our kids?
