Yes, we optimize all images, both server-side (performing general optimizations) and client-side…
Your Friends @ Medium

Fantastic post and so glad to learn this! That’s one less thing I have to worry about! It’s beautiful work like this that brought me over from WordPress to Medium. I get to focus on content instead of technical issues. I’ll never look back!

Now for Some Suggestions

  • Your Friends @ Medium, you might want to mention that Medium automatically optimizes images somewhere in the section about images in the Help Center. A lot of people used to old-school platforms such as WordPress are probably still faithfully optimizing their images before uploading because they didn’t realize you take care of everything behind the scenes.
  • Ev Williams, you might want to think about writing a communication style manual for your staffs because some users may see a response such as, “What exactly is your question?” and read it in the wrong tone of voice. You’re a diverse and global platform now, so your user support communication style needs to almost over-compensate to the point where it would be absolutely impossible to be taken the wrong way. One company I have seen do this exceedingly well is Buffer. They also have a consistently cheerful and helpful tone and style regardless of whether it is an engineer or a support rep.
  • Ali Mese, you might want to amend your article (which was awesome BTW). Image optimization tools are still useful, though. You can still save a lot of space on your hard drive or make the files smaller for sending as email attachments, etc.
