The Depressed

Dementor by Tamia-van-Paine

All they really need to do is snap out of it

So I don’t want to hear that

They need help as well

Those who suffer from depression

Have no real mental health issue

They just have an attitude issue

Why would you think that

A fractured bone

Is the same as a

A wounded soul

How can you not see that

It is a choice and not a disease

It is a sign of weakness and not an illness

It is wrong to assume that

Vulnerability is a quality of the strong and not a trait of the weak

We need to start realizing that

It’s not about genes and brain chemistry.

Please stop believing that

They should depend on friends and family for help

If they need a source of hope and strength

Because the truth is that

They ought to be ashamed and pick themselves up

Because they, are the only ones to blame

This is about inadequacy & character deficiency

We have to stop feeding the lie that

This is a misconception & stigmatization

Depression is just a figment of their imagination.

Do not be so naive to think that

This state of mind can really turn your life upside down.

(Now read from bottom to top)

We can challenge and overcome the stigma of depression with a change of perspective.
