The Internship that Changed My Life.
It was the experience of a lifetime and all credit must be given to Jesus Christ, Brian Verne, and Michael Eppich. I learned more about business, sales, negotiating, professionalism, leadership, marketing, user acquisition, user retention, networking, perseverance, determination, and ambition than I ever have in my entire 21 years of living.
It was made very clear from the first time I sat down in the Phenom Headquarters that Brian (CEO) was looking to assemble nothing but the best team to help him achieve Phenom’s Ultimate Goal: Perfecting the first mobile app that gives young athletes the ability to show off their style and hustle whether it be during a game/competition, training, etc..
After understanding that, I was locked in. The idea is genius. This is what every high school athlete has been dreaming about but the problem is, some just haven’t realized that it already exist!
The ideas bouncing around the office all day long, everyday, and picking the brains of some very prominent people in the great city of Cleveland is what sparked my ambition. When you find out that you were hired with a team of six others out of about 50–70 applicants, you start to understand that you’re about to be apart of something special. It also means that you are working for a company that is not afraid to let you know if your work is insufficient. They demand our very best in every aspect of our work, and our best we gave them.
Collectively, in one summer we did what I’m sure some Growth hackers have never even heard of and/or accomplished. I really wish I could give you an exact number but let’s just say this: Phenom V 1.0 was released to the AppStore on 8/16/2014, when my internship started in May ‘15 Phenom was at approximately 2,500 downloads. By the end of my summer internship we hit approximately 35,000 downloads.
Yes, you read that right. 2,500 to 35,000 active Phenoms in 2 months. Please don’t forget that this was all achieved with the help of 2 of the hardest working entrepreneurs you’ll ever meet and 6 interns from 5 different universities with completely different backgrounds.
But it still isn't enough and I can’t speak for Phenom but I will be happy when they come out with “The Social Network 2: Phenom”
…. or 1,000,000 downloads would be nice too
