My opinion on create-react-app is that it was a great starting point to get over the complexity of setting everything up in a new project, but I actually think it’s harmful to use in new projects.

With the caveat that I haven’t tried it, it looks like you can successfully push to a fork if you run
git lfs fetchwith
--all which will trigger downloading of GitHub LFS objects into
$ git lfs fetch --all <remote>
