again, we agree. yet for many churches the question is decided, not alive. i think the majority is actually a shade of grey, but the most prominent voices often assume an either/or. when we apply jesus to our beliefs, it shuts down conversation. i follow and blieve in Christ, not nonviolence. If nonviolence flows from Christ, then I happen to be a pacifist, but i cannot hold strongly to pacifism, because sometimes being a pacifist first means you can be a jerk to those for whom the question is far more complex. i think this is the problem with hays, hauerwas, zahnd, mckenna, other. The opposite is true for folks like biggar, neibuhr, etc.
