Thanks for differentiating here. I still am a little iffy on Todd Rose. As an English teacher, I think metaphors have consequences and I think his fighter pilot one is telling. His last vignette about a pilot — albeit a female one — wreaking utter havoc on enemy positions was frankly shocking to me in the context of its application to education.
I admit that a lot of this thinking is not highly refined. The historical bit is really the centerpiece for the whole thing, the notion that the U.S. has a largely invisible template that haunts many of its attempts at reform, even including non-tech, non-corporate education reform.
