I disagree… sort of.
Love with conditions is not love, that’s very true, and I personally believe that it’s much better to be unconditional in most things whenever possible.
But to deny that the people we interact with expect something from us, or that the world owes us anything without first giving it something? That’s simply naievity.
We don’t live in a World of unconditional love and sacrifice. It would be wonderful if we did… but we don’t.
Can we as individuals act to change this, even if the impact is only slight? Of course we can. Should we? Of course we should!
But that doesn’t mean we should simply turn a blind eye to the nature of the World. If we are to navigate our relationships, and be successful in them, we must understand the system on which the majority of those relationships operate, and, more importantly, we must learn how to recognize and use it.
In doing so, we make ourselves better prepared to be unconditional and more passionate in our interactions with others because we have taken it upon ourselves to define clearly the intentions of people, which is, to a fairly significant degree, to be self serving. This isn’t wrong by any means, it’s simply what is, and in seeing the world and those around us for what it is, we can better navigate it in order to change it into what we’d like.
To stay ignorant towards it because we don’t like it, however, is far more dangerous.
