what do you want more out of life: happiness or success?
On first impulse, this question seems ridiculously easy to answer. Happiness. A thousand times over. But I think this one is loaded.
Maybe not in terms of concept…
Success and happiness don’t have to reside at such opposite ends of an imaginary spectrum. I’m not talking about cutting corners here. or settling for mediocrity. It’s not a matter of lowering your standards of happiness so that you can feel like or at least give off the impression of a successful person. It has much more to do with your success being determined by your achievement of true, unwavering happiness.
These two things go hand in hand. We often forget that we can choose to set our parameters around the word ‘successful’. not in the spiteful spirit of a cheater, but rather in order to strive for that which makes us happy. successful doesn’t have to mean money, fame, glory. success can certainly be attained with the childish gaze of your son or daughter, in total awe of their father. successful can also be related to your work, but you can make no money and love what you do, make a substantial impact on people and causes, and still feel ridiculously successful.
success is mostly about the pursuit, and less about a comfort level. that chase, that learning, makes me the happiest.
pursue. challenge. conquer. smile. get back to work.
