200 Views In Support of Women Who Code Atlanta
What do you do when your life could change with the click of a button? You write a post on Medium.
In February a friend shared news about a video competition for female content creators and women in tech. I thought to myself, “Hmmm, this sounds like me,” and at 11:30 PM, I shot a 60-second video on my phone and entered the contest. By 3 AM I regretted my decision. I thought about all the deadlines that I had, my new client quota, and I was recovering from a cold. There’s no way that I’ll have time for a film competition. Then I prayed, “God, please don’t let them pick me. I’ve been diligent with my business development and I don’t want to lose momentum.” By 9 am on March 1st I was accepted into the program. I can still hear Vanessa Parker say, “Now you know you were wrong for that prayer.” LOL! Maybe, but it was true.
It’s the beginning of April and I am a contender for pitch meetings in LA with TV networks like ESPN, BET, NBCUniversal, and more. I guess the moral of this story is, you can run, but you can’t hide. If you’ve gotten this far down the post, I just want to encourage you that what is yours, is yours, even when you’re not ready, tired, frustrated, or any of the other life experiences that we go through.
