Gurkha land : An opportunity for Maoist
According to US State Department, the number of terrorist attacks in India increased by 16% in 2016.India was also rank third behind Iraq and Afghanistan in the list of the countries that faced the most number of terrorist attack.
Recently India’s Army chief General Bipin Rawat in his statement said that Army is ready to fight a two and half front war. Two wars i.e. one with Pakistan and another with China, and a half front war with the Domestic threat i.e. Maoist.
Nearly two -third of the terrorist attacks carried out in India in 2016(65%) were attributed to the communist party of India (maoist).
The naxal were classified third above Boko haram in the list of terror groups responsible for carrying out the most number of attacks.
Government of India is trying out it’s best to wipe out this domestic threat, but there are some factors which giving naxals the opportunity to re establish themselves. One of such issue is Gurkha land.

Gurkha land was first proposed by Ari Bahadur Gurung and Communist party of India. In fact the communist party of India send a memorandum to the constituent assembly proposing Gurkha Stan in 1947.
Now, after the language imposition by the WB government the issue of Gurkha land raised again by the Gurkha people and their leader Bimal Gurung. Who wants to train a private Army for this purpose. And Maoist will grab this opportunity with two hands. As they can easily get support from neighbouring enemy country and the maoist present in Nepal.
If they succeed in their plan, then this will be a biggest setback for India. As the Gurkha land comprise the chicken neck area which is strategically very important for India and it’s north east states. Maoist can easily get help from China which help them revive the red corridor again and destabilize India.
So the Gurkha land issue must need to solve quickly in a peace full way.
