The 4 Cornerstones of Building A Profitable Process… My Week with the Super Coach!

I spent the past week traveling with the Super Coach Micheal Burt as he was delivering his highly sought after coaching and leadership training. Coach and I spent some time discussing the latest book he had been reading. The book titled “Saban” The Making of a Coach by Monte Burke, had become a source of inspiration for Coach Burt and he was sharing that briefly with each organization he was coaching last week. Through this brief description of the book and it’s findings at every session we were at, I saw a consistent pattern each time in every group when the book was mentioned and shown.

  1. Emotion was evoked
  2. No one wasn’t paying attention
  3. The word RESPECT was used by everyone

Throughout each stop and every session that Coach Burt delivered I began cultivating and crafting this very article. I noticed that there were so many takeaways from those meetings; however, the points that kept driving home an urgent response from me were those things he had mentioned about Nick Saban and the book he referenced. These four cornerstones are, what I believe, to be vital for creating a Profitable Process in your life and business.

1. Be a Disciple to the Discipline: Every day my day now starts out at 5am with a rigorous workout, followed by a breakfast, personal development time that consists of reading, this week that is from the “Inspirational Leader” by Micheal J. Burt. From there I very specific about my blocked time of Operations, Action Items, Deliverables, and Follow-up processes. The Discipline to this schedule is a process that is needed to prepare my mind and body to operate at a high volume level.

2. Remain Coachable: The coaching and training sessions had their challenges, at times, with some of the electronic and projections equipment. These are those “variables” that sometimes you don’t see but are always prepared for. After each session, Coach wasn’t upset but he immediately went into “COACH” mode with me, asking where we could have done better, how we can avoid those variables again, etc. I was impressed by this because while the room was in awe of the workshops and training, we were on PROCESS mode getting coached up for the next group and staying focused for those “variables” to show up again. Remaining coachable is vital to long term success and consistent longevity.

3. Be Battle Tested: The long hours, the early starts, the “variable” moments, and the late nights, can be things that break people. For me it is another reason why the process is so important. Furthermore the dedication to consistency, never feeling satisfied, and looking to get better is part of being battle tested. It’s the sacrifices you make prior to the battle that will mentally, physically, and emotionally prepare you for what will take place when you step on the battlefield of life and in your business. Taking this cornerstone for granted and entering the arena of battle without being tested, can ultimately lead to your disappointment and short life span in whatever endeavor you embark upon.

4. Finish Strong: As we went from state to state and venue to venue I noticed that Coach Burt was not wearing down but yet was looking more refreshed, more excited, and stronger. I was very intrigued by this and started to notice the very same in myself. As the training was being delivered and the coaching on and off the training floor was being given, the passion, the desire to win, and the need to keep going was at an all time high. You see one of the most recognizable things that Nick Saban and his Alabama football team do is when the 4th quarter hits they hold up the Number 4 as a unit. This is to signify that it’s not the ending of the game but yet the beginning. The training, coaching, personal development, and discipline led them to the 4th quarter where the work is just starting. Finishing strong is not an option but yet an obligation and one that everyone should utilize in their life and business.

To sum up my week with the Super Coach it’s becoming a disciple to learning, working, and dedicating myself to understanding this one simple phrase, Process over Profits. In my life and business I must dedicate so much time and focus to the processes that the end results have no choice but to be the most profitable outcomes. Paying the price first is a requirement for those who truly want to deposit the most profits in their bank and life accounts. Nick Saban quoted it best….
