Background

Grab

Grab Holdings Inc., commonly known as Grab, is a Southeast Asian technology company headquartered in Singapore and Indonesia. In addition to transportation, the company offers food delivery and digital payments services via a mobile app. Grab currently operates in Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. It is Southeast Asia’s first decacorn and the biggest technology startup in the region.

Research Method

In this case, i will focus on the UX Writing in “Scan Payment Feature” Grab application. Thus, I have use 2 method to conduct the research :

  • In-Depth Interview (IDI).
  • Competitive Analys.

Research Conduct

First of all, I did In-Depth Interview (IDI) to five users regarding to UX Writing Grab’s Scan Payment Feature at the homepage.

Competitive Analysis

Make “the icon” more relevant.

From the competitive analysis I did to 2 apps, I found out how they put a name on “the icon” to make a scanned payment which is used for similar features like Grab’s ‘scan payment’ icon.

Ovo’s Payment Icon
Gojek’s Payment Icon

Solutions

It can give a tooltip to educate users and make users understand what the icon means.

Rationale

The problem is about the feeling of ignorance of the user to do a quick scan of the payment system. All we need to do is add an informative tooltip to tell the meaning of the icon.

Key Takeaways

  • Working on this case study made me realize I still have a long way in learning to write a good copy.
  • The new copies I proposed might be far from correct due to limited time and access to actual user data, success metrics, business context and rationale. It is better to understand those first prior to creating a copy.
  • Knowing where to fix is really important and I couldn’t do that without doing a research to the people who actually use the app. Thus, user research is a compulsory step in making a user-centric copy.

Please feel free to leave feedback or suggestions. Your evaluation is very much needed for my development. Thank you :)
