Bend Like The Reed
A Situational Pattern.
Situation
You are working away on something and then suddenly things shift. Ambiguity shows up. And maybe you realize it’s going to take some time to sort itself out. You could get frustrated or upset but neither will help. Instead, bend like the reed when the winds of ambiguity begin to blow and you can weather the situation. In fact your new mindset could even help bring clarity to what is before you.
Pattern
1. Be patient.
Situation is what it is. You might only see one aspect of it.
2. Manage your response.
If you feel emotions, feel them. If you need to talk it out, do. But be careful not to let a negative response get in your way.
3. Bend.
Flex as needed. Move from side to side. Pause. And then go again. Repeat the flex for as long as it is needed.
4. Stay the course.
Continue what you were doing. Do it as best as you can with the info you have.
Why
Adaptability is critical to grow, learn and succeed. Ambiguity comes and goes. When it shows up, realize that it won’t last forever. And rather than letting it rattle you, bend like the reed to stay grounded, learn and grow.
