Situation

Maya Angelou once said, “I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it.” Life happens. And it’s not always easy or pleasant. How you respond and what you take from it is the opportunity.

Pattern

1. Get through it.
First and foremost you need to get through whatever you’re facing. Do your best and keep your composure.

2. Process what happened.
Take the time you need to think through what happened. What was your role? What was the role of others? What emotions were brought up? Why?

3. Be strong.
Think about what you can learn from what happened. If unsure, that’s ok. Perhaps in time something will come through. Be kind to yourself.

4. Move on.
Let whatever happened be. Think through what you’ll do differently going forward. Take comfort in the strength that you’ve learned. Release the situation from your mind and move on.

Why

Far too much opportunity exists in this world to let yourself be consumed by something that has shaken you. Stay strong and let whatever be… be. Rather than reducing you, let the experience build you up.
