Situation

You’re worked up. Perhaps even a little panicked. A situation has got you in a twist. When you find yourself here, it’s incredibly important to step back and remember Rule №6 (video here)… Don’t take yourself so damn seriously!

Pattern

1. Take note of you.
Observe your feelings. Monitor your state of mind and how it relates to your feelings. Begin to learn how to spot when this type of thing sets in.

2. Prepare and remember.
Prepare yourself before you’re in it. Maybe its a sticky note on your fridge at home or desk at work. And then when you notice you’re getting worked up, be sure to remind yourself of Rule №6… Don’t take yourself so damn seriously!

3. Employ your network.
Don’t go it alone. Employ your network so that you all remember Rule №6. When the frantic crawls up on you or when you see others in that space… call out their name and say “Remember Rule №6!”

4. Practice.
Practice this simple reminder and lighten up. In time, you’ll soften and those around you who practice with you will soften too. If it helps, make it a game. Play with others.

Why

Pressure in this life is all around. Putting even more pressure on yourself is simply unnecessary. Remembering Rule №6 is just a lighthearted way to keep yourself sane. Remember to lighten up and not take yourself too damn seriously!

Rule №6 is inspired by Benjamin Zander. For further reading, see the book The Art of Possibility. It’s highly recommended.
