The Micro Pivot
A Situational Pattern.
Situation
Ambitious goals can sometimes feel daunting. There is where you want to go and there is where you are at this moment. And sometimes the difference between those two can seem vast. So how might you get there? Employ the micro pivot and achieve.
Pattern
1. Figure out where to go.
Admittedly this one might take you some time. It’s not always easy to know where you want to go so think it through. Write down what comes to mind.
2. Prioritize.
Out of all that comes to mind how might you prioritize? Write up a list. Evaluate the items one by one. Consider different dimensions like difficulty or effort.
3. Think about what’s involved.
So where exactly is it that you want to go? What is at the top of your list? And what ingredients are needed to get you there? List them out.
4. Identify one small step.
If you were to do just one thing and one thing only what would it be? What ingredient would you work on first? Start there.
5. Set a date.
Be specific here and set a date for completion. Commit to it. You can also let others know and have them hold you to your commitment.
Why
When dreaming big, an ambitious goal can seem almost impossible. But, if you start small… one micro pivot at a time… and do them again and again you’ll go far. Look back after a few months… or a year and you’ll be amazed. Achievement unlocked.
