What’s The Lesson
A Situational Pattern.
Situation
You’re hooked. An emotionally charged situation has got its grip on you. What’s the lesson here? What can this moment teach you? Process the current situation, find the lesson being taught to you and grow.
Pattern
1. Identify the situation that has you hooked.
We’ve all been there. Perhaps it’s an exchange, misunderstanding or something that has been building for a while. Regardless there is something underneath the situation that has you emotionally charged.
2. Look inside and identify what’s really going on.
What might the situation be triggering for you? Look inside yourself. What’s really going on for you? Is a personal belief is being challenged? Perhaps a familiar button is bring pressed. Where is the grip? Reflect and bring clarity.
3. Find the lesson that the moment is teaching.
What is one lesson that you can learn from this moment? Even the toughest, most challenging of situations provide teachable moments. It might suck to go through, but there’s likely a lesson. By identifying the lesson, you can begin to loosen it’s emotional grip.
4. Be gentle with yourself and grow.
Be gentle with yourself. Allow mistakes to happen and embrace the teachable moment. If the teachable moment is clear… awesome. Learn what you need to learn, shift your perspective and grow. If the teachable moment is still somewhat fuzzy that’s ok too. Keep at it. With practice will come insight which will in turn lead to learning.
Why
An emotional exchange means something inside you is being triggered. By looking at the situation as an opportunity to learn and grow, you will loosen it’s emotional grip. And once you loosen it’s emotional grip, you can begin to walk a new, more informed path.
