Day 02: Off-Campus self training

We were emailed the curriculum and directed on how the coming would progress. Day 2 was a bit different, we were told that we will be off-campus and have access to the Andela labs. At the back of mind I thought well this is quite fair.

Day 2 brought in so many experience, first, I felt like my mind was in a classroom set up but my body being at home, we would constantly research and seek for feedback from our TIA. Discussions started as early as five o’clock in the morning, everyone trying to assist each other where they could. It was quite an experience for me since I was not conversant with Test Driven Development, I had to do intensive research so that I could attempt a couple of problems.

As I kept on completing my off-campus tasks, I remembered one of our facilitators telling us how they are going to make us get stuck, and added that the program is designed in that manner. To be honest I got stuck a couple of times but didn’t loose faith, I wanted Andela so bad. The feedback I got from my team leader was really encouraging, it kept me going throughout the day. She would ask “Is everything okay?” “Did the code work?”, this encouraged our team to be more open when they get issues, which helped a great deal.

There was this time I was doing my research and my brother came over and asked “What’s the process of getting into Andela?” I explained to him all the process right from the application to the project phase, I remember him exclaiming “Are you applying for Harvard?”, we both laughed. From this two days, I’ve come to believe that success is a process, and in every process make sure you give it your best shot, at times that’s the only shot you got.
