Separators in your OS X Dock

I want to show you how to add separators to the dock of OS X. It’s a really helpful trick to organize your apps and get a clean and neat dock.

  1. Open a terminal and write: $defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-apps -array-add ‘{“tile-type”=”spacer-tile”;}’
  2. You need to restart the dock process to see the new separator, so you have to write in your terminal: $killall Dock

Using those shorts commands you can add any separator you want.

Note that the separator behaves like any other app in the dock, you can move it around (with click and drag) and you can remove it (with right click).

Thats it, is a pretty easy trick for organize your apps which will beautify your dock organization.
