True multiplayer was never NEVER promised for No Man’s Sky. In fact, Sean Murray had the following things to say about it:

On 10 June 2014, “No Man’s Sky isn’t an MMO. You know, it’s actually quite far from an MMO, and we never set out to build that type of game.”

But the MMO fans didn’t want to hear it.

Then, on 3 November 2015, “Forget about multiplayer… This is not an MMO, it’s not a game you sit down and play with your friends… You want a deathmatch, No Man’s Sky is not for you.”

But the MMO fans didn’t want to hear it.

Then, on 10 March 2016, “”Multiplayer for the game, actually, we’ve always said, is kind of not really a big focus… when you talk about multiplayer, I think it just gives people the wrong impression. That’s not what we’re trying to build and it’s not what people should be thinking about going into the game.”

But the MMO fans didn’t want to hear it. They deluded themselves into thinking it was an MMO, and then they blamed Sean Murray for not meeting their unrealistic expectations.
