Agree that nailing retention by adding value, before going after scale is a sound strategy. The last thing you want is a leaky user bucket and you rarely get a second chance after a user has churned. However, I view retention as the most critical component of a growth strategy. Retention is going to grow your sessions yield and also drive additional growth levers, like social and referral coefficients, acting as a natural and more powerful acquisition tool.
