Word count does seem to have become a focus for a lot of people. Personally there are only two times when word count means anything to me:

  1. When I am entering a contest
  2. For NaNoWriMo

The rare exception is when I try a book like “How to write a novel in 30 days.” We shouldn’t be focused on how many words we can use to craft a story. We should be focused on how to tell a story in the most engaging way possible.
