How AI will change the automotive industry forever
10 years ago if you thought self driving cars would be a reality within the next 15 years, people would have called you crazy. Today, big automotive companies such as Mercedes Benz and Tesla, are in the process of creating them.
Let’s start with Mercedes Benz, the creators of possibly the most futuristic looking concept car.

The F 015 Luxury in Motion Concept Car gives the customer the option to not have to drive at all. Mercedes Benz claims that the cabin of the car will change into “a personal haven where time and space are the ultimate luxury.”.
Tesla, in my opinion has the best self-driving car. The Model S is already equipped with what Tesla calls the “autopilot” feature, activated with a simple double tap of the cruise control lever, the car takes over completely. When autopilot is enabled the car is able to do basically anything that a human can do, it can even scan for a parking space, alert you when one is available, and parallel park on command.

Self-driving cars are supposedly going to eliminate traffic jams, no traffic jams means shorter commute times as well as fewer accidents whether it be a fender-bender or a major collision. 30,000 people die in the U.S. every year from motor accidents. If self-driving cars could reduce this number you would see almost every automotive company make a self-driving car. The cars will also be able to learn, take the shortest route possible, as well as scan the road for obstacles and find out how to avoid them safely. Even though self-driving cars are unaffordable to the majority of the world’s population, we should expect to see more and more of them on the road every year.
