You want to make it into your next favorite developer conference. But this time you don’t want to be a spectator, you want to be a speaker or a presenter.

But…

You are afraid that you lack expertise. You are afraid that the crowd doesn’t know you. You are afraid that the demo breaks. You are afraid of stage-fright. You feel that you are not good enough. You fear that your proposal will get rejected. All unnecessary fears!

We have all been there.

The one question that matters, is the one thing you paid less attention to: What is the audience interested in?

Here is where things will change for you.

The next time you have a conference proposal in mind, think of different scenarios of what participants of the conference may be interested in. Brainstorm and rank, but keep that question in mind: What’s interesting for the audience? Think relevance!

You have that big idea ready!

Now you want to impress the reviewers. Remember that they are also reviewing in terms of how relevant and interesting your proposal is to the community as a whole and specific audiences. So, while you are aiming for quality, you also want to aim for relevance and uniqueness.

The key thing is to familiarize yourself with the community and think of different ways in which you can help. By understanding higher-level issues, you will understand demands. Now you are ready to become the supplier of knowledge. All that’s left now is to prepare yourself for the big stage.

Now is the time to fear! 😉
