iPhone iOS 8 | Less Typing

A short tutorial to save you time from writing out long responses.

  • For iOS 8 to iOS 8.1.2
  • Also works in iOS 7, but some settings are different
  • Used iPhone 6 Plus to capture images

In your “Settings” → “General” → “Keyboard” → look for “Shortcuts”.

Two panels are visible only on the iPhone Plus when you flip the iPhone Plus for horizontal viewing.

To add a shortcut click on the “+” on the upper right corner in the “Shortcuts” menu.

Enter the sentence, or phrase you want to create a shortcut for. A work example can be: “I’ll look into it and reach out to you later.” And create a shortcut for the phrase like, “jeeez”.

Using the Gmail app.

This is helpful if you repeatedly respond to e-mails, or text messages with the same response. So in any app if you type, “jeeez” then the iOS will popup the phrase, or sentence you created for that shortcut.

You’re welcome.
