What is Deposteron?

Deposteron is a medication containing testosterone used for hormone replacement therapy in men with testosterone deficiency. It is administered through intramuscular injections to restore normal testosterone levels.

Dosage and Administration

  • Adult dosing varies from 50–400 mg every 2–4 weeks depending on the condition
  • Administered by deep IM injection into the gluteal muscle
  • Store at room temperature and protect from light

Warnings and Precautions

  • May increase risk of cardiovascular events, dyslipidemia, gynecomastia, and prostate cancer
  • Use caution in patients with BPH, sleep apnea, or diseases exacerbated by fluid retention
  • Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to testosterone, males with breast or prostate cancer, and pregnant or breastfeeding women

Adverse Reactions

Common side effects include acne, increased hematocrit/hemoglobin, prostate-specific antigen increase, injection site pain, and upper respiratory infections. Other potential adverse effects involve various body systems.

Drug Interactions and Monitoring

Testosterone may interact with several medications. Monitor liver function, lipid panel, hemoglobin/hematocrit, calcium levels, and prostate health. Measure serum testosterone levels periodically.

Mechanism of Action

Testosterone is the principal endogenous androgen responsible for male sex organ development and maintaining secondary sex characteristics in androgen-deficient males.
