Observations from The Beer Man
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Arizona Diamondbacks 7/30/2017
Well tonight was a great night for sales but it was a lousy night for the Cardinals. They lost to Arizona 7–1. Their bats went silent as their defensive woes continued. Defensive sloppiness which is typically uncharacteristic of Cardinal baseball has been all too common this season.
It was a nice cool evening, the capacity crowd was in a good mood, and man were they thirsty. Sales were great and the tips were generous as well. The only thing that would have made it a better night would have been a Cardinal win. We started selling Michelob Golden Light awhile back. It’s really caught on at the ballpark. I sold a bunch of it tonight.
I did have one awkward interaction with a woman who swore that her husband paid me for a water that they didn’t get. In the end I gave her a free water and ate the $5.50. I could have pushed it. I know they didn’t pay for another water but I didn’t want to run the risk of her complaining. And there was an usher standing right there. We were told awhile back in no uncertain terms that our behavior as vendors is watched and scrutinized. Even the ushers are watching us they said. All it would have taken was for that usher to tell my supervisors that I made this woman pay double for a water and my job would been at risk. Better to just give her a free water and move on.
