Why Was 5 x 3 = 5 + 5 + 5 Marked Wrong
Brett Berry

Wikipedia: “The multiplication of two whole numbers, when thinking of multiplication as repeated addition, is equivalent to adding as many copies of one of them (multiplicand) as the value of the other one (multiplier). Normally the multiplier is written first and multiplicand second,[1] though this can vary and sometimes the distinction is not very meaningful.”

If the kid was to be wrong the question had to specify which number is the multiplier and multiplicand, to test this concept. There is no irrefutable property of the universe that they are always in this order. This is not teaching anything about === concepts.
