Homemade has recently been hiring more than ever before. It has been one of the most humbling experiences of my life. Amazing people from all over the world have expressed interest in working with us for a variety of roles. I’ve never felt as down to earth as I do right now.
Deep down I also feel tension, because building a company is about balance. In order to reach the correct balance for this phase of our company, we need the right people. We have to try and understand the needs of our business for the next 12 months, and find people that will fill those gaps appropriately. It is extremely hard a tremendous learning process.
Sometimes a great candidate does not help fit in with my mental model of what the company needs at this moment. Limitations of the company + team + resources can mean that timing might not be right for a certain person, even if they are a great candidate. What is scary and stressful about this is the fact that my mental model isn’t right. It is too difficult to accurately predict what we will need in the future. There is a possibility that I am making the wrong decision by passing on certain people right now.
Acceptance of fallibility with an eye to improvement has been my mindset. Hopefully I will have a lot more insights over the next few months.
