[ICO REVIEW] What is Amino? Will it be the next-generation global decentralized infrastructure for computing power?

Amino’s goal is to optimally connect and manage idle computing resources from the world’s computers and form a stable distributed computing network that supports a wide range of applications. Amino is developing an innovative decentralised architecture to support a distributed computing network and in the process, utilise blockchain to convert idle computing resources into digital assets. The Amino ecosystem design creates a fair, flexible, and reliable ecosystem.
I. Token Metrics (TBA)
There are two tokens, AMO for governance via DPOS (Delegated proof of stake) and GAS- for rewarding providers and charging consumers. There will be more information of Amino’s ecosystem white paper soon.

III. What is Amino?
Amino solves the problem of current cloud computing infrastructure: high cost, high latency, limited scalability, network congestion and information security. Amino’s solutions is to reduce cost by increasing supply of compute resources; reduce latency by increasing compute density; provide large-scale, distributed compute; reduce congestion by moving compute resources closer to consumers and improve security by “ring fencing” compute resources. It’s likely that in the near future, more and more industries will require distributed computing networks, which may need to have low latency, enhanced security, resilience, scalability and efficiency.

This table implies the features of Amino Network
IV. Amino’s ecosystem?
The goal of Amino is to optimally connect and manage idle computing resources from the world’s computers and form a stable, distributed computing network that supports a wide range of applications. Amino is expected to achieve this goal by developing an innovative decentralised architecture to support a distributed computing network and in the progress
Due to the weaknesses in centralised cloud technology of high-cost, high-latency, low reliability, limited scalability, network congestion and information security, Amino has applied themselves with some solutions, which can be named below. Amino’s first solution is to reduce cost by increasing supply of compute resources, reduce latency in increasing compute density, provide large-scale, distributed compute, reduce congestion by moving compute resources closer to consumers, and improve security by “ring fencing” compute resources.
1. Consensus Algorithm
Amino applies DPOS for their blockchain, in which it solves the problem of PoW and PoS.
2. Masternode — slave note and super node
Amino has three tiers, supernodes control the amino network via a blockchain ledger, and slave nodes which are managed by master nodes, plus master nodes being managed by super nodes.
- Slave Nodes- these contributors must have Amino’s customized OS (Amino OS) installed on the hardware in which they are contributing to Amino. They then receive GAS- whenever their computing resources is available to Amino.
- Masternode- these contributors must hold AMO tokens that are then locked as a bond in order to become eligible to join as a master node. Note that the bond acts as a guarantee that the masternode owner will ensure their master node and its associated slave nodes behave responsibly. They then receive GAS tokens for the computing resources provided by their associated slave nodes.
- Super nodes can instantly find the required computing resources needed to complete the associated task by auditing the statistics from the master node layer such as: the performance and specifications of the master node’s slave nodes, the network status for computing resources, the super node layer allocates a master node as the customer’s interface
3. How distributed is Amino Network?
Super nodes’ function is to receive contract (block) for task execution from consumer, and to allocate a master node as the peer-to-peer interface for consumer. The way to select the best master node is to proximity to consumer, or the available compute resources- slave nodes.
4. What is Amino OS?
Amino OS- is short for Amino Operating System, which is a hypervisor based on OS for workstations, e.g, gaming machines. In which, Amino will provide 2x virtual machines (VMs), in which it contains owner’s machine and amino network compute node as the slave node.
The slave node is available when owner’s machine is idle, and there will be generates tokens- considered as GAS for the owner. There will be no software to be installed on owner’s machine.

The masternode in Amino governs computing units that utilise computing units to complete the tasks assigned to them.

In Amino, the platform takes responsibility for overall tasks, individual nodes provide computing resources to the platform.
- Performance and price stability
Amino provides stability of both performance and price by adapting the way that available computing resources used to meet requests for computing tasks.
5. Sharing computing resources
Amino enables the sharing of computing resources, so the contributor won’t experience any reduction in performance. As the resources will be shared when it becomes idle, not being used, hence won’t be shared at that point in time. In which, Amino expects to provide easy-to-use, reliable computing resources and to the data. The sharing technology must not increase the probability of system failure, enable the use of peripherals as usual, and keep both the contributor’ and the customer’s data secure.
6. What are some use cases for decentralized distributed computing?
There are some cases highlight the fact that current economic model for decentralized distributed computing needs to be changed. The first is the financial trading application for personal trading that utilises AI/Machine Learning (ML) techniques, and compute-as-a-Service for educational institutions.
Amino provides a blockchain application for sharing computing resources, but with an economic model that ensures benefits for both contributors and consumers. Individual contributors are rewarded by Amino on the blockchain for making their computing resources available, regardless of successful execution of tasks.
V. Team

Amino’s team is composed of distinguished researchers and experts from top universities in New Zealand and Australia. There are 3 people of the Founders/ Scientists team.
Dr. Michael O’ Sullivan- Co-founder and CTO of Amino. Graduated from Stanford University, he is the OP expert in intelligent Cloud computing, with the specialises in OR with Analytics. He has advantages in Cloud Computing. Just one remind of his leadership skill, how to run a startup.
Prof. Cameron Walker- Co-founder/ Chief Scientist. He does not mention Amino in his LinkedIn. It seems he spends his time mostly with the learning and doing researches at the University of Auckland.
Dr. Felix Xia — Co-founder/ Advisory Board Member- He has over 30 years of business experience in IT, environmental technologies and medical equipment. He has been the working as the founder of Suntech Group- the third largest domestics security company in New Zealand.
It is essential that the founder team have the leadership skill as well as intensite experience regarding the vision of the project.
In term of the Research Development, there are 5 Drs., who are well specialise in cloud computing and system management.
VI Roadmap

Their roadmap is quite clear but not much specific, with test net v1.0 available on Oct 2018, and the testnet v2.0 on Q2, 2020. The idea of Amino was conceived in Q4–2010. On the roadmap, it doesnot say the expected date of mainnet though. It is recommended to add more detail what to do in the roadmap during the Stage 4.
For more information, I think this YouTube video will help.
VII. Partners
Their website is being under-development. Other information will soon to be updated there.
VIII. Conclusion and prediction
Amino has competitors in the same field like Golem, SONT, Ankr- Cloud computing. The idea of cloud computing is not really new but still promising. Amino has announced the drawback of the traditional application and provide with their solutions. At this moment, after contacting the team, I’ve known that they already have their MVP done, I hope it will soon to be released. Amino is back with a good team- not really intensive in blockchain, but good at cloud computing. The community is getting larger, but the frequency of questions on the group chat is not much.
With the challenges and opportunities and the roadmap above, Amino will be a long-term to go. The project is on progressing. More information should be released. In this bearish market, I do hope Amino will not too ambitious of a high Hardcap. Token metrics, partners will soon to be announced. However, Amino is sure to be on my watchlist!

*Note: All the information (on icogens.com) including tokens sales, “interest level”, ROI rate, hype rate, risk rate are our subjective opinion and only for informational and educational purposes. The information ICO Gens provides is not an investment advice.
HYPE: is defined as the level of concern over a project and its FOMO. This score is based on the number of people joining a project’s social channels such as Reddit, Telegram, Twitter, Facebook, Bitcointalk, Medium or Slack as well as the number of review articles produced by the third party.
RISK: the risk rate of the project. Based on this score, you can find more spam warnings of the project. More specifically, RISK is about the transparency of the project, its idea, members of the development team, roadmap and whitepaper. (RISK is rated regardless ROI rate of the project).
ROI: (Return on Investment): the rate of profit a project can bring to investors (ROI is considered separately from RISK. ROI can be rated High and RISK can be rated High as well).
TERM: this factor reveals the length of time you should hold token or coin of a project. The period of time can be Short, Medium or Long.
ICOGENS’ SCORE: this score can be decided by scores of four other scores or it will reflect the level of interest ICOGENS’ team has in the project. This score is separated from ROI score. It just shows how much Icogens core team concern the project.
