ICO might take from several weeks to several months. Some projects have ICO that lasts a year (like EOS). If you have a community connected to your project or company and they are willing to support you by giving you money for future services than you can save yourself a couple of months.

The average journey of a project during ICO is as follows:

  1. You explain your idea in your WhitePaper. What is there we will discuss later in this book.
  2. You share your vision with potential investors community. You might want to be backed by some private or venture investments. We will talk about it too.
  3. When you see that you are getting enough support and your documentation is satisfying a certain number of active community members you can announce pre-ICO and ICO.
  4. Then you get through a set of steps creating your marketing materials like a website, presentation, etc. where you explain using appropriate words what are you doing in the project and why do you need money.
  5. During pre-ICO projects usually collect money to do ICO. Budgets for an ICO marketing campaign right now varies from 80.000 USD up to 600.000 USD. Not bad, right?
  6. If you had raised enough money, you are getting into ICO marketing campaign. You want to visit conferences and blockchain meetups, talk to the community, make presentations. You need to create ICO infrastructure where investors will see your tokens online right in their profile on your website. You can do all that manually but when you work with thousands of investors automated is a useful thing.
  7. Once your ICO starts, this is where the fun begins. You might raise all the money you need within minutes or even seconds if you do your preparation well.
  8. You need to distribute tokens after each stage of the ICO or at the very end of the ICO.
  9. Now you need to do what you promised. Work on your project and change the world.

Each stage of the ICO we will review in details in future articles.
