While There’s Still Breathing Room.

Max Tegmark (a physics professor at MIT and for many years a rabid participant in AI) gave an interview today to The Guardian. It’s very funny to me, and I think to many other people, that certain AI practitioners think it’s silly to even deign to talk to physics professors or CEO’s like Elon Musk because they couldn’t possibly understand how it REALLY works at the programmer level, when of course that’s utter and complete nonsense. And it will be proven right quite soon, and it’s up to US to start talking about critical things like LAWS Ban and job loss right now, while there’s still breathing room.

BTW, the first 2 minutes are awful — the interviewer preening his usual guardian self — so I suggest you go to 2:15 or so, and then you’ll enjoy a very good, useful and important interview with Max Tegmark, and the real likelihood that in our lifetime we will really live through, and have to deal with, an Intelligence 3.0 — the artificial intelligence.

I am extremely interested in AI, especially the not-so-good side of AI weapons and AI war, although the good parts are magnificent and wonderful too, naturally.
