Protests Feed What They Oppose

Indeed, but not completely.

As George Lakoff has been saying for years, if you are only “against” you are simply reenforcing the frame which you are “against” by repeating its language.

Demonstrations (not always ‘protests’) also feed the passion and enhance the network dimensions of the community, which lead directly to invigorated engagement in alternate models, direct political action, media targeting etc.

Let’s remember to stay focussed on what works.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
