From neighbourhood book corners and social networks to city transport systems across the world, a power is moving books. That power is people. Ordinary people who find it irresistible to share their love of books.

They are doing it, on and offline, in huge numbers. And jump at the opportunity when inventive social influencers provide new and imaginative ways in which they can do so.

This pleasant past time has a huge impact on big business and in turn the economy.

Global book publishing revenue is valued by Book Map, (as reported by Publishing Perspectives), at 122 billion euros, that is $143 billion. Source The New Publishing Standard. People who move books are integral to the growth of a multi billion dollar industry.

Hollie Fraser, is founder of Books on the Move, Instagram profile, @booksonthemove, a global book sharing movement which occupies 20 city transport systems and generates a massive amount of conversation across social networks.

Hollie is also ideaXme ambassador for literature, reading and writing. In her capacity as ideaXme ambassador she interviews the people who move the world of publishing, reading and writing forward.

What is #bookstagram and why is it so important?

#Bookstagram is a community on Instagram. It’s hashtag has been used more than 23 million times. Comprised of book lovers, writers and publishers who identify themselves with this hashtag, as well as a series of further hashtags for more detailed classification.

There are more than 800 million active monthly users on Instagram. 40 billion photographs have been published on the platform since its launch. 25 million businesses use it as a marketing tool. Source Omnicore. Bookstagrammers represent a powerful marketing force on Instagram.

“Bookstagram is a community of readers and book bloggers on Instagram. The community increases in number every year. I think publishers have begun to take it very seriously. Millions of people use Instagram for book recommendations. Books are discussed on Instagram more than any other social outlet. If a book starts to get a lot of hype on Bookstagram it’s hard to not want to check it out. Publishers are becoming well aware of how much Bookstagram influences readers.

She is founder of Books on the Move, a book sharing initiative, which shares free books on public transport in cities across the world. Originating in London in 2012 with Books on the Underground, it’s now in 20 cities world-wide. “Anabel Jimenez, is Dominican, and a NYC native. She’s currently working as a marketing assistant at Gallery Books. She started vlogging about books the summer of 2012 and then moved In The Book Corner to Instagram in 2015, where she now has over 17k followers. Inthebookcorner is the name of her blog across social media platforms including: YouTube, Instagram and Twitter but she maintains it only on Instagram now. She shares photos of books that she’s reading or books that she receives from publishers, as well as doing giveaways for her followers she partners with publishers to promote their books”.
