Venerable Servant of God Antonietta Meo

Venerable Servant of God Antonietta Meo was a six-year-old Italian girl who may turn into the youngest person to ever attain sainthood. She had osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer. When she was five years old, she fell and harmed her knee and the injury didn’t heal. When her leg was cut off, she bore the trial “happily”. She was later fitted with an artificial leg.

She saw the loss of her leg as a penance to Jesus for the transformation of sinners. After her leg was amputated, she told her father: “Pain is like fabric, the stronger it is, the more it’s worth”.

At the young age of six, Antonietta reached the peak of Christian perfection that we are all called to scale. This Lenten season, let us try to understand the value of suffering. Many who have gone through suffering, found themselves better for the experience, painful though it may have been. Let us offer our own personal sufferings as a prayer to the Lord.
