An Evening Cocktail
A cacophony of sounds,
Clanking of cutlery on China,
The clinking of wine glasses,
A toast,
champagne to wash down
the stereotypical jokes.
Small chops and desserts,
To cover the half-hearted hollow laughter,
Disharmonious symphony.
The party is in full swing,
With you seated at the left wing.
You see it all as perspicuous
as nature itself,
Burning hatred ensconced
in guile smiles.
Can an elephant conceal it’s footprints?
Like a violent storm
looming over a thatched house,
Will it stand the test of time?
Only of he could see, you say to yourself,
Your brows furrowed
At the malevolence,
That shrouds our heart.
