Installing Kali Linux on VMware
Yesterday I posted a quick way to install Kali Linux on VMware, this time I will post the manual way. This one is a bit long, so be patient.
First of all, download the .ISO file from kali.org
After that open the VMware application, then select “New Virtual Machine…” or can be typed “Ctrl+N” for the shortcut.
Follow the steps below:
- Choose Typical (recommended)
- Install from: Installer disc image file (iso) and then Browse…
- Insert the .ISO file that was downloaded earlier.
- Guest operating system: Linux
- Version: Other Linux 5.x kernel 64-bit
- Insert Virtual machine name and Location.
- Maximum disk size (GB): You can choose from 8 GB and above.
- Split virtual disk into multiple files, because makes it easy to move.
- Finish.
The initial display looks like this
You can edit the device in “Edit virtual machine settings”. After that press the “Power on this virtual machine”.
As usual, if you find this, just press “OK”.
When faced with this, choose the “Graphical install”. Now it’s time to configure Kali Linux!
Just follow these steps.
- Choose the language
- Select your location
- Configure the keyboard
- Enter the hostname of this system
- You can skip the Domain name section
- Set full name, username, and password
- Set a time zone
In partition disks, choose “Guided — use entire disk” for new users. Then create a single partition for all files and finish.
So the conclusion is that partition 1 uses ext4 format and partition 5 uses swap.
Select “Yes” to write the changes to disks and press Continue.
You can select all of them to get the full experience or choose one of the Xfce, GNOME, and KDE Plasma user interfaces.
Continue
Lastly, install the GRUB boot loader.
After that, you will be taken to the Kali Linux operating system login page. Enter the username and password just created.
Press Log in.
Voila!
Now you can learn to be a pentester.
