Louisville! brace yourself as high speed fiber optics is coming.
Yes that is absolutely right people of Louisville will soon enjoy the super internet speed of about 1Gigabit per second. It’s like downloading a whole series of Game of throne is now just a matter of a click and here you have it “Download complete.” Thanks to upcoming fiber optics network. The city and some part of its neighborhood will be honored this time not by Google but by AT&T.
Fiber optics cable is actually made up of enormously thin threads of glass or plastic which are known as optical fibers; one cable can have as few as two strands or as many as thousands of these strands depending upon the usage or the task. The diameter of each strand is ten times smaller than that of a human hair and can carry something like 25,000 telephone calls, so an entire fiber-optic cable can easily carry several million calls. So they can transport a huge amount of data at a very fast speed. Fiber-optic cables uses entirely optical (light-based) technology to carry information between two points. The data flows through the fiber optic coded in the beam of light.
So AT&T will provide this technology to Louisville which can initiate a tech. market in this vicinity which was previously not possible due to slow internet. The internet speed they will be providing will be 50 times faster than the average internet speed across the country. AT&T has quite a big network of these fiber optic cables. They have more than 193,000 strand miles of fiber-optics in Jefferson County alone. That’s enough fiber to wrap around the world nearly eight times and they are expanding more and more to provide fast internet to millions of consumers through out the country. They call their network as GigaPower which is providing internet to every sector of life including businesses, education sector , cloud computing industry and what not.
The community of Louisville is very happy about this new application and Louisville Metro’s chief of civic innovation said in this regard that “This will be an important milestone,”
Apparently the Mayor Greg Fischer showed a keen interest and he was foreseeing the future aspects of fiber optics as he compared strong Internet connectivity to other basic infrastructure likes roads and sewers. According to him this fiber optics connectivity would also boost Louisville’s status in the tech community.
AT&T is planning to sue the Louisville Metro because of an ordinance which clearly is meant to help Google Fiber in the particular area. As the ordinance permits new providers like Google to rearrange other company’s equipment on utility poles when installing their own services. They are also paving their way to get the permission for digging as to establish and permanently install fiber optics lines in the area. Despite the case in the federal court the Metro council warmly welcomes the service providers on providing the community with ultra high speed internet at a very economical, and cost effective prices.
