One of the main reasons to pay attention to this distribution is the Mint Ubuntu 22.04 long-term support and the Linux kernel 5.15 base. Thanks to these features, Virginia is a stable and reliable operating system for both new and experienced users. Since it’s also a Mint LTS, Virginia comes with long-term support that allows it to be used worry-free until April 2027.

Like all Linux distributions, Virginia is not just a desktop operating system. It comes with all the software you need, including Libre Office 7.3.7 for office productivity, Thunderbird 115.16.0 for email client and calendar, GIMP 2.10.30 for graphic editing, and Firefox 121.0.1 for browsing the internet.

If you’re not a fan of factory-installed applications, installing new programs is no problem when it comes to Linux. Just like you do on your phone, visit the software store — Software Manager — find the program you want, and install it.

For example, if you prefer Chrome, all you need to do is type ‘Web browser’ into the search, and you will find dozens of browsers that you can install. In addition to Chrome, there are Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, and Mosaic

Considering that we used the term ‘software store’, all software is free, and there are reviews to help you make an informed decision about the software you want to install.

Software Manager also allows the installation of Flatpak applications, which can work on any Linux distribution. On the other hand, Mint does not support Snap-packaged applications, but adding Snap support is quite easy.

The abundance of memory that today’s computers possess ensures that you will almost never run out of necessary space, plus, Linux applications are significantly lighter than those made for Windows and macOS.

Linux Mint also comes with its own ‘native’ applications, among which are Hypnotix, an IPTV tuner and receiver, Warpinator, a space for sharing files in a local network, and Bulky, an application for easily renaming a large number of files and directories at once

While Linux Mint supports numerous Linux work environments such as MATE and Xfce, its default environment is Cinnamon, which stands out with its simple and clean appearance and ease of use.

The Cinnamon interface is extremely fast and responsive, and unlike Windows updates that often bring slower performance, every step forward with Linux Mint practically speeds up the computer.

In fact, Linux Mint will work on almost any computer, even if it has 2GB of RAM and 100GB of internal storage, any graphics card, and a monitor that supports 1024x768 resolution.

If you want Mint and Windows on the same machine, provided they are not used at the same time, Mint 21.3 has made this even easier. The new Mint version has full support for Secure Boot, as well as greater compatibility with BIOS and EFI implementations.

Despite the existence of hundreds of Linux desktop versions, whether you are a new Linux user or a veteran, the latest Mint upgrade brings everything you need from a desktop for everyday use.
